We are blessed with four grown children and nine grandchildren. Our oldest grandchild is seven. When she was planning her 7th birthday party, she was excited about every detail. She had written in her journal the theme for her party as well as the decorations and colors she wanted to use. She made a guest list. Then she decided on the food she would like to have. Her eyes were wide and filled with joy as she described every detail to me. She counted down the days and her joy was exuberant.
When was the last time you anticipated, planned and longed for something like that? What have you allowed to steal your joy and wonder? Is it the responsibilities of adult life? Maybe it is a marriage that has grown stale and burdensome. Or is it the paycheck that never seems to make it to the end of the month? Whatever it may be that has stolen your joy, or stripped you of wonder does not compare to the truth of who we are and what we have in Christ Jesus!
Do not allow the liar, the very Father of lies to distort, pervert or steal your wonder and awe! The God Who created all that exists loves you with an everlasting love and He desires a relationship with you. Not a distant, every once in a while relationship, but a daily, moment-by-moment intimacy that will fill you with “joy inexpressible and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8).
We just celebrated Valentine’s Day. It is the holiday celebrating love. Won’t you take time to pause and reflect on the One Who has offered you love and life? He has granted you all that you need – abundant life now and eternal life yet to come.
As believers we have the greatest reason to celebrate. We should exude the joy of the Lord and a genuine wonder that will be attractive to those outside the faith. This should be a daily occurrence for those of us who know Christ. How can we ever get over the great love that sent Jesus to the cross and the power that brought Him up out of the grave with the keys to death, hell and the grave?
Ponder the things of God. Spend a little extra time meditating on His Word this week. And don’t forget that you have been invited to the party of the universe – the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. It is time to make the guest list and make sure all our loved ones have received an invitation. The Bible says:
“Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
(1 Cor. 2:9).
Jesus is planning every detail. Let the awe of our Savior and all He is preparing capture your heart and imagination. See if that doesn’t bring a smile to your face and new purpose to your days as your wonder is restored!
