Missional Motherhood: Goals for the New Year

It’s 2015! (I always thought we’d be flying around in cars like The Jetsons by now!) As I reflected over all that 2014 has brought for my own family and what might be ahead in the new year, I couldn’t help but think back on the past 8 months since Missional Motherhood was birthed. I have been so blessed personally by the community of women who have grabbed hold of the vision behind MM. It has spurred me on in my faith, as well as challenged and encouraged me in my roles as mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. I like to think of this special community as a family of sisters. We may not be sisters by blood relation, and we may not live anywhere near one another, but we are joined with a bond far deeper than genetics or geography. We are truly sisters in the family of God.

Among us there are new moms, seasoned moms, and empty nesters. There are those of us who have experienced the blessing of motherhood through adoption, struggled through infertility, birthed babies biologically, and fostered precious children in our homes. There are mothers of children with special needs, mothers of children fighting disease and illness, and mothers of children who left this world far too soon.

We are each unique. We have different passions and different interests. We do not fit one general mold. (And I for one celebrate that fact!) BUT, we have one very special thing in common. We share the same calling and mission as daughters of the King. This mission is what Christ Himself called all believers to in Matthew 28 when he told us to “go and make disciples of all nations…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

It is my prayer that you have been encouraged and equipped this year to do just that. I hope the message and mission behind Missional Motherhood has played at least a small role in that journey for you in 2014.

As we move forward into this new year, I want to share with you, our Missional Motherhood family, a few of the goals and dreams we have for the year ahead.

One of our biggest goals is to develop a deeper sense of community among our readers and contributors over this next year.

It is our prayer that no mother ever feel alone in the journey. We really are in it together, ladies! None of us have it all figured out. But we desire to seek the Lord with our whole hearts and to encourage you (and be encouraged by you!) along the way.

The first active way we plan to do this is through our first ever Bible study challenge. You can read more about that here, but in short, we are going to be reading through the book of Genesis together over the next seven weeks (#MMGenesisStudy). We’d love for you to join us! We hope to have more opportunities like this throughout the year. Click here to print the Genesis reading plan for the next seven weeks.

We also hope to do some reader spotlights over the next year. Do you, or someone you know, have a unique story or perspective you’d like to share? What does your life look like? How have you purposed to carry out the great mission of motherhood in light of the gospel of Christ? We want to hear from you! Connect with us through the contact page if you would be interested in applying for a reader spotlight. While we may not be able to share every story worth sharing, we do hope to showcase a variety of mothers who are seeking to live life on mission right where they are. Have a friend you would like to nominate instead? That is great too!

Do you have a ministry or business you’d like to showcase to our readers? We want to help you! We are working on a media kit to offer advertising spots on our site, options for sponsored blog posts, shout-outs on social media, etc. Trust me, the reason behind this has nothing to do with putting money in our own pockets. We have simply grown to the point that we need help covering some of our current out-of-pocket costs associated with running this site, as well as costs involved with future site needs in order to further the reach of our message and mission. We want to encourage as many mothers as possible with the great news of the gospel and the important calling of motherhood according to God’s Word. But in the process, we’d like to help you! We want to provide our readers with relevant resources, and help you further your reach as well. If this interests you at all, we’d love to hear from you through the contact page.

It is our privilege and duty as women and mothers to, “not hide these truths (the truth of God’s Word) from our children,” but instead,we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders…so the next generation might know them—even the children not yet born—and they in turn will teach their own children.” Psalm 78:4,6

May we as women, mothers, and the Missional Motherhood community, take this Word from the Lord to heart. And in the midst of the chaos, the mundane, the unknown, and the ups and downs of life and motherhood, may we treasure the beautiful inheritance we have in the Lord, and seek to pass it on as if it were our greatest possession. Because in fact, it is. It is our very life and hope for our future.

We have more exciting things we will be exploring throughout the new year and beyond, but we want you in on our goals and vision. And as you enter into this new year with your families, this is my prayer for you:

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

I’m so thankful that God helped me find Missional Motherhood this past year. It is such a blessing each day to read the articles and feel like I’m sitting right beside a dear friend having a conversation. I appreciate the openness of the writers to share their struggles and weaknesses with their readers. Looking forward to growing together as missional mothers in 2015! God bless you.

I have been blessed to be a part of Missional Motherhood. But the true blessing is seeing all the moms in every season of life that have been touched by this blog. God is using Missional Motherhood to encourage and transform lives. Thank y’all for stepping out into God’s calling. Blessings, Melody
