The Power of an Uncontested Enemy

Uncontested Enemy

A while ago I was having “one of those mornings” and I needed to go for a walk (breathe in, annnnnd out). Thankfully it was the weekend and my husband was home so I was able to go by myself (hallelujah)! So I bundled up, got my jams, and headed off. While breathing in the fresh country air, rocking out to some Bethel Worship and reveling in the moments away from my girls (I love ’em a TON, I promise), I walked past a weed that was coming through the pavement of the road. It was not just creeping out; it was flourishing. There God dropped in my heart the matter of spiritual warfare. I had my phone with me and I took a picture of it so you could see the illustration played out before me. If you will, scroll up and look at this weed. This was in the road, y’all! It was a newly paved road as a matter of fact. But here was the problem; there was a crack, a tiny little spot, and this weed found that crevice and fought its way to the surface. Here was the even bigger problem, nobody did anything to stop it. Because of that, it took root. I realize spiritual warfare may not be the most fun topic to discuss, but because of the real battle we are in, it is a mandatory one!
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 NLT
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NLT
The enemy wants to completely infiltrate and corrupt your family. He wants to destroy your marriage, your kids and you! Look at how the devil works—he comes in first to fascinate, and then to assassinate. He dangles something appealing in front of me or my kids and if I foolishly bite into it, he is there ready for the kill. As a mom, the spiritual well-being of my family is of the utmost importance to me. I need to realize that an uncontested enemy will always flourish! That weed on my walk was uncontested, and it did just that—it flourished. So what does this mean for us as women, wives, and moms? In the battle that is raging for our families we have to step up and do something about it. Sulking, wallowing and accepting the attacks on our kids, our marriages and our minds is not an option for the woman of God! We have ammunition in our spiritual arsenal that God has given us. Let’s use them!

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.” 2 Corinthians 10:4 NASB
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11 ESV
The place to start is by asking the Holy Spirit to show you areas where cracks and crevices are starting to form in your family. (Pause. This is not a time to feel ashamed or, on the other hand, self-righteous. The enemy attacks all of us. We know this because the Bible says Jesus was “tempted in every way just as we are, yet he was without sin.” Don’t feel like if you were a better Christian you wouldn’t have to deal with the attacks of the enemy, and also realize that we never outgrow spiritual warfare so we need to be prepared to fight. Okay, press play.) Then you specifically target that issue with prayer and scripture (because remember, an uncontested enemy will always flourish). You plead the blood of Jesus over the situation and claim the promises of God over and over and over again. God has given us such powerful gifts in His Son, His Spirit, His Word and His Church and we should never fight alone.
The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom…” 2 Timothy 4:18 ESV
“He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” Colossians 2:15 ESV
Finally let me encourage each of us, don’t be afraid! We have the power and the boldness of Jesus Christ inside of us, and we have the knowledge that we are on the winning team! (The devil is a defeated foe! Wohoooo!) We don’t need to be cowering in fear. We need to stand up as strong women of God and start waging war by the power of the Holy Spirit. Don’t fight in fear, fight in faith knowing that greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world! Let’s bathe our kids and our husbands in prayer and commit them to the Lord. And when you start seeing a crack appear on the neatly paved road of your family, contest it in the Name of Jesus!

Thanks Stacey! So cool how you saw the same weeds! They are a good reminder to never let our guard down! Have a great day!

Love this analogy. Reading your post brought an urgency in my heart to continue to cover my children and husband in the blood of Jesus. We sure are on the winning team! 🙂

My christian daughter just told my husband and I that she is moving 2 states away with a guy she just met. When I read your words “accepting the attack on our kids” I realized that is what I was doing. I was thinking there was nothing I could do or say to my stubborn, strong willed daughter but there is. I will pleading the blood of Jesus over this. Thank you for listening to the Lord and writing these words for others to read.
