He is Able

Able: having sufficient power, skill or resources to accomplish something

It was 8:30 p.m. on a Tuesday night in February. I usually love Tuesday evenings and long for them every week because it’s simple and pure. The women in our church gather (usually in our comfy pajamas) to spend one hour praying and believing God together to move in our church, families, and community.  But on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, I was weary. I had been struggling with waiting for God to answer my prayer for a second baby.

So I carried my burdens with me that cold February night and laid them on the altar, pleading with God to do a miracle. I remember a song was playing in the background by Hillsong called “God is Able”.  The lyrics are so true and breathed some life into my soul:

God is Able, He will never fail

He is almighty God

Greater than all we seek

Greater than all we ask

He has done great things

Lifted up, He defeated the grave

raised to life, our God is able

In His name, we overcome

For the Lord, our God is able

I was quickly reminded that Jesus Christ DEFEATED the grave. He is more than able to answer my longing for a baby. He had already given me the beautiful gift of our first adopted son, Cooper. His presence was what I needed to seek after, and He was able to carry all of my burdens (and even desired to!).

Before prayer ended, we gathered in groups of three to pray over each other and our church. I told my group to pray for God to help my unbelief in the waiting season. My prayer group was full of faith and begged the Lord to do a miracle. I vividly remember a dear friend praising the Lord and specifically telling Him that she believed He could even do a miracle that night. My faith level was restored. God had not forgotten about me. I left the prayer meeting believing Him more.

I look up toward the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth! –Psalm 121:1-2

I rushed home to tell my husband how the Lord lifted my head and gave me hope. When I walked into our house, Kyle was sitting on the fireplace anxiously awaiting my arrival. He told me that while I was away, our adoption agency called to say we had been chosen to adopt a baby boy. Okay, stop. WHAT. IN. THE. WORLD?!  I need to repeat what happened for you to process this with me.  While a group of ladies and I were praying about our second child, the God of the Universe specifically answered at that moment? Yes He did! Why? Because my God is able to do more than I could ask or imagine!

Fast forward to a month later. Kyle and I went to the hospital to meet our son, Able Kyle Reno. And just when I thought God had done enough, Able came into the world at the same exact height and weight as our first son, Cooper, when he was born. I absolutely love that I serve a God who cares about details. There’s no way I deserve to be the mother of these two beautiful boys. God’s timing is absolutely perfect and His will is far better than what I could have imagined.

I share my story for other women to know that God is able to answer our prayers. He is able to heal any and every disease. God is able to restore marriages. He is able to calm a mother’s anxious heart. The Giver of Life is more than able to answer the prayers of women (just like me!) longing for children. He is able to make the impossible POSSIBLE. Jesus Christ conquered the grave. Lift up your head. Have faith. Our God is able.

Here’s a video of us welcoming our precious Able into the world. You may want to grab a tissue!
